Belgium single permit: how it works
Belgium has no single national rule for work permits. Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels each set their own conditions and salary limits.

How it works
Find the region
The rules depend on where the worker will work.
The employer applies
The employer usually files the single permit application with that region.
One permit for two things
The single permit covers both residence and work.
Salary limits
Salary limits change every year and differ by region. Wallonia raised its limits from 1 January 2026, and published figures from advisers do not fully agree, so always use the regional authority's current number.
Practical changes in 2026
- Reports say Brussels moved applications to the federal Working in Belgium portal in May 2026.
- Reports say Flanders added a regional application fee in September 2026.
Confirm both with the regional authority.
What this means for you
A real offer names the region, the job and the salary. If an agent cannot tell you which region applies, that is a warning sign.
