Germany visa refused: what you can do now
Many websites still tell you to write a remonstration to the embassy. That route ended on 1 July 2025. You now have two options.

What changed
If your refusal is dated 1 July 2025 or later, a remonstration sent to the German mission has no legal effect. It is not processed, you get no confirmation, and status questions are not answered. Remonstrations against refusals dated before 1 July 2025 are still processed in full.
Option 1: apply again
You can make a new visa application at any time. You normally pay the usual fee again and present all documents again. The application is reviewed on the current legal situation. This is usually the practical choice if something was missing or weak the first time.
Option 2: go to court
| Where | Berlin Administrative Court |
|---|---|
| Deadline | 1 month from the date the notice is served |
| Language | German |
| Lawyer | Not mandatory. Lawyer fees are separate if you use one |
| Court fee | About €480, based on a usual claim value of €5,000 per applicant |
| When you pay | Generally in advance, right after filing |
| How long | Several months can be expected |
How to choose
- Read the reason in your refusal notice first. It tells you what to fix.
- If you can fix it with better documents, a new application is cheaper and simpler.
- If you think the decision is legally wrong and the deadline is still open, speak to a German immigration lawyer.
- Check the legal remedies section of your own notice. It gives the deadline for your case.
