Hungary stopped guest worker permits
Since 6 June 2026 you can no longer apply for a new guest worker residence permit in Hungary. If someone is selling you this permit today, stop and check.

Why it happened
The guest worker permit was open only to citizens of listed countries. The list was withdrawn, so no country now qualifies. The government has also ordered a wider review of employing non-EU nationals, so more changes are expected.
What is still possible
The residence permit for employment purposes remains, under stricter conditions. Treat any Hungarian job offer carefully, and ask which permit the employer will use.
