What you do at work
You transport building materials for a construction company in North Rhine-Westphalia. No heavy goods licence is needed, because the work is in vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.
Can you drive in Germany on a foreign licence?
This is the main question for this job, and most guides skip it.
- A licence from outside the EU and EEA is valid in Germany for 6 months after you take up ordinary residence there.
- The contract lasts 8 months, so 6 months is not enough by itself.
- The local licensing authority can extend the period by up to 6 months, on application, if you show that you will stay no longer than 12 months.
- You may also need a German translation of your licence or an international driving permit.
Tell your manager which country issued your licence. This is checked for your case before you apply.
Which permit is this?
The driver job uses the same route as our warehouse job: quota-based short-term employment under §15d of the Employment Regulation (BeschV). Employment is limited to 8 months within any 12 months, the employer pays the necessary travel costs, and the Federal Employment Agency sets a quota that can change. Read how the §15d route works.
Take-home pay
€3,247 is the gross figure. Tax and social insurance are deducted from it, so you receive less. We do not have a confirmed payslip for this role, so we do not quote a take-home figure here. Ask your manager for an example before you decide.
What it costs
Our service costs €1,000 per person, or €700 per person in a group of 10 or more. This covers the work permit, invitation, all documents, translation, consular fee, DHL delivery and the embassy appointment. If your visa is refused, we refund the fee, except visa fees.
