The three steps
Work permit from IGI
The employer applies to the General Inspectorate for Immigration. Its stated time is 30 days, which can be extended by 15.
Long-stay work visa
You apply for the D/AM visa at the Romanian mission with the work permit.
Residence permit
You apply after arrival in Romania.
The quota
The yearly limit has been used heavily: by 5 December 2025, 95% of the quota had been used. Demand for permits has been far above the limit, and employers have asked for more. Check the final 2026 decision and whether the limit is reached before you pay anyone.
What to ask an agent
- Is the permit (aviz de muncă) already issued for me?
- Who is the employer, and can I contact the company directly?
- What is the gross pay, and what is deducted for housing?
