Spain salary in 14 payments explained
Spanish job offers often quote a salary in 14 payments, not 12. Without knowing this you can misread an offer by thousands of euros a year.

What pagas extra are
Spanish workers are entitled to at least two extra payments a year, called pagas extra. They are usually paid at Christmas and in the summer. The collective agreement can spread them across the 12 months instead, so a 12-payment salary can be the same as a 14-payment one.
Compare in yearly gross pay
| €2,530 × 14 | €35,420 a year gross |
|---|---|
| Same yearly pay in 12 payments | About €2,952 a month gross |
| €2,530 × 12 | €30,360 a year gross |
Always ask for the yearly gross figure and the number of payments. The first example matches a real labourer contract we have seen.
What to check
- Is the monthly amount with or without the extra payments?
- How many payments are there in the contract?
- Are the extra payments spread monthly, or paid twice a year?
- Remember that tax and social contributions come off gross pay.
